Electric Water Vehicles
Electric solutions for river transport — from passenger ferries to outboard motors for all sorts of boats. Powered by the sun and Volta Move's swappable battery systems.
Standardised Batteries
Driven by the Sun. On the River Gambia, a passenger ferry for 30 passengers converted to electric propulsion. 24 PV modules, 14 swappable sodium-ion batteries and 2 × 10 kW electric motors prove that ferries can run entirely on solar power.
Electric outboard motors between 1.5 kW and 10 HP developed and tested under real conditions in Africa. For fisherwomen, oystercatchers, and birdwatchers — lower fuel costs, zero emissions, and quiet operation on the water.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our products.
The ferry is designed for the Barra–Banjul crossing on the River Gambia. With 14 swappable sodium-ion batteries and continuous solar charging from 24 PV modules, it can operate full daily schedules.
Depleted 48V Power-Packs are quickly removed and replaced with fully charged units at the dock. This eliminates downtime and keeps the vessel in continuous operation.
Electric propulsion eliminates diesel fuel costs entirely. The energy comes from free solar power, resulting in dramatically lower operating costs compared to conventional engines.
Yes. Our electric outboard motors are designed to replace conventional outboards on existing fishing boats and small craft with minimal modifications.
VoltaMove provides 10-year manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Contact us for specific warranty terms for your application.
All systems have been field-tested under real conditions in West Africa, including The Gambia. The Sun E-Ferry project is sponsored by the German NGO Energie Dezent e.V.
